17th London of 141 Brigade, 47th Division, moved into the front line trenches in the Bluff sector of the Ypres salient on 28th November, 1916. The Battalion Diary entry for 2nd December, 1916 recorded that the situation was normal and that the enemy shelled the vicinity of battalion HQ in the afternoon killing three men and wounding another ten. One of those killed was Charles Pitchfork on what was anything but a normal day for him. |
